Prior to 2017 there were GCSEs in Science and Additional Science (grades A*-G). In 2017 these were replaced by Combined Science which is the size of 2 GCSEs (grades 9-9, 9-8....U-U). It's always been possible to take separate GCSEs in any/all of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. 6-6 in Double Science would be equivalent to a B or above in Bio and Chemistry although higher grades are sometimes required for Combined Science rather than separate.
