hi,

I'm in year 12 and my business teacher who is also my form tutor is leaving next week and my dad said I should ask him for a reference to use when applying to uni.

but what is a reference, I have a general idea but what do they even write and how do you put them down on applications for uni and jobs etc.

how do you even ask for a reference???

can I even ask for a reference after only 1 year of knowing him???

help!

You need a teacher to write down your reference, however this is done when you're in your final year of college and most teachers will offer to do so anyways when going through UCAS (applications for university). Not sure why your dad is keen on asking him for a reference though. Also, a reference is basically a bit about you.

It also makes sense what your dad is saying though, since he's known you for a year he can write a decent reference about you for when it's time for you to apply to university. Although, you can only take his email down for now and UCAS will ask you to provide an email.
