About the book series - Suzanne Collins trilogy - The Hunger Games, Catching Fire , and Mockingjay follows the main protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The series takes place in a dystopian world where one boy and girl between the ages of 12 to 18 is selected from each of the 13 Districts as tributes to train in the annual Hunger Games where only one can win.

There are also some excellent older sc-fi books out there. Asimov's Foundation books or I,Robot, and War of the Worlds by Wells, all books that are much smarter than they are often given credit for. China Mieville's works are also good, if somewhat challenging reads, particularly Embassytown.
