If u applied to a certain college for a certain subject, would your interviewers always be teaching fellows from that college?

usually they will be yes, there may be exceptions and occasionally a teaching fellow from another college who also has links to the college may assist but yes in general that is the case. the person who interviewed me last year is now my supervisor and director of studies

Thanks. This might sound stupid but do u think if I don’t have specific interests in one area of the subject I’m applying for, reading around what the teaching fellow specialises in would be a good thing ?

Since you could be pooled to another college, and even if you are interviewed by your first choice college you don't know which fellow(s) will be interviewing you, not really. I believe the University itself has advised against applicants doing just that, for those reasons. Additionally it could backfire, since of course the fellows will be experts in those subject areas and it will become immediately obvious how extensive (or not) your understanding of the area is.

just confirming this is exactly correct, I was at a talk given last week to applicants by Dr Sam Lucy, director of admissions for the university and admissions tutor and interviewer at newnham college and this was her reasoning, it's of no advantage to you and can actually be a hindrance
