Hey guys, hoping someone can shed some light on my current situation. After falling short at my filter interview last year for pilot I have reapplied for WSO this year and I’m currently awaiting my filter interview date.Whilst at my P2, 2 recruiters held me back and asked me to reconsider applying for WSO and told me WSOp might be better suited as there is a long hold for WSO at the moment. I know nothing of this and am hoping somebody with greater knowledge than myself can help. TIA.

WSO is more competitive than WSOp for sure as the target is lower, and there may be some holding involved before and after selection for WSO. My advice to you is apply for WSO if that is what you really want to do. That said, there is no harm looking at WSOp too and, if you like the look of the trade, apply for that as well. Doing this will give OASC more options with you if you happen to not be competitive for WSO or if you are competitive but there is going to a long wait in the selection hold. To find out more information regarding WSOp, ask your AFCO for the contact details for the WSOp Specialist Recruiting Team. They will be able to talk to you about all the brilliant opportunities within the role. Good luck.

Hi

Have you read all of the information about both roles on the RAF Recruitment website. They're quite different. As a WSOp you'll be pretty hands-on in most roles, making sure everything is loaded or correct in the back of the aircraft and the role is varied from aircraft type to aircraft type etc.

As a WSO you'll be on a specific type of aircraft and it's quite specialised. It's not a Navigation role like it used to be many years ago.

The decision which one you continue your application for is up to you. But have a good read through all information beforehand.

Kind regards
Adam

Hi Aviator,

I was applying for WSOp a few months ago (didn’t get through OASC unfortunately) and also had WSO as one of my choices.

I can’t provide much info about the roles, but did come across this forum thread on PPrune while doing interview prep - there’s a bit of thread drift but hopefully it’ll be useful.

There’s also a couple other WSO threads on here which should help.

Good luck with the rest of your application!
