look into paid for current account, they can offer better interest rates than many savings accounts

Depends on how long you want it saved for. I save in ratasetter isa at 5% for 5 years. It’s risky but probably not as risky as shares.

Building societies usually offer better rates

I know Coventry Building Society and Skipton Building Society both offer 1%+ on instant access savings

You should be able to get at least 1.45% on-line, if you don't need to be able to go in a branch to access your money without first transfering it to a more accessible account, more if you were happy to tie up the money for longer. Also look at Regular Saver Accounts, though you'd normally only be able to put in £200 to £250 per month, for a year, so you'd still need a normal account too. Have a look at the money saving expert website if you haven't already.
