Can metro bank give someone a cifas 6 marker (asking for a friend). He said that his metro bank card was used fraudulently and it was then closed. His Barclays card was also -100£ and he didn’t pay it back for a month which resulted them in blocking the card until he did so. He know has and his online banking works as normal but he’s lost his card and called the bank to get a new one but they’ve told him that there’s some sort of block on it. Maybe it’s the block from the negative balance? Or his biggest fear a cifas 6 marker becuase he’s just researched all about it. Pls no negative comments, he knows he’s in the wrong now he needs to accept his mistake. Do you think it’s the cifas 6 marker for sure?

Any bank can apply a CIFAS marker. If there's a possibility that that's happened, then your friend should make a Subject Access Request to CIFAS to find out -- see https://www.cifas.org.uk/contact-us/...access-request for how to do it.

It could just be the block from the negative balance, though. If he's been asked to repay it and hasn't, it's perfectly reasonable for a bank to decide to block the card (assuming they've given a reasonable amount of time). It's also reasonable, in my view, for them to refuse to replace it if he still hasn't paid up. And they might well take the view that they're not happy for him to have a card any more and hence decline to replace it.

If he's got a CIFAS marker, I think it's more likely that they'd have closed the account completely, rather than just not replace the card.

If phoning the bank isn't getting clarity as to why they won't replace the card, he might perhaps contact the bank in writing and ask for a written explanation.

Yeah think it was definitely cifcas you won’t be able to apply for a high street bank for 6 years it messes up your credit, don’t think they will block the account just for a negative balance did they ask to repay the balance the best thing to do now is apply for a prepaid debit card they do cost fees they often don’t require credit checks anyone can apply for it some you have to be over 18
