My sister is booked to stay at Janet Poole House in Gower Street, London for her last year of uni. However, it is too expensive and she doesnt really wish to stay there but the company, homes for students wont let her cancel her tenancy at any cost unless she dies or finds a replacement tenant.

Is there a way she can leave this accommodation?? Or shes stuck?

She shouldnt have signed if she wasnt sure and she should read the terms and conditions. It is a contract.
If she doesnt want it she should find a replacement tenant and start advertising now.

She has advertised but so far no one is taking it. Where else can she look?

She needs to find a new tenant then, as she’s entered a legally binding contract
Advertise on specific websites, Facebook, TSR, is there a uni forum or group chat she can ask on? She can leave the accommodation but she will have to continue paying for it until someone else takes over

Unfortunately if she cannot find a replacement tenant and have a polite discussion with Homes For Students then she or her guarantor are legally liable to pay the rent for the whole year! It's not pleasant but there aren't any other options.

If I were in her situation and couldn't find a replacement then I would speak to the Student Union or to the university directly and.. beg for help.

Hey - Your sister will need to check her tenancy and see what it says in regards to being released from the contract. Also, have a look at the cancellation policy online. Some providers will have a policy where they can cancel up until a certain date and be released from contract but will not get their deposit back - For example ours is the 3rd of August. If they don't have this policy or if she has gone past this date then in most cases the only option is for a replacement tenant to be found. As someone else suggested, getting this advertised in as many places possible will help.
Also, if she does not get released from contract and has to stay - See if the site will set her up a payment plan or contact the uni to see what help they can give.
Hope this helps Jess - Bentley House

Has she had a look at the cancellation policy? (https://wearehomesforstudents.com/terms-and-conditions) It has got something on there about cancelling before the 1st of August.... Unless there are any other exceptions listed then i don't think there is anything that can be done unfortunately - Jess - Bentley House
