Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of any websites that offer PDF versions of texts or online second-hand options? I'm an international student and I'm looking to do some further reading for my Master's, but course books are super expensive and I'm sure someone out there has a PDF version or e-book. Anyone got any suggestions?

Just use the physical library? They can arrange interlibrary loans for books they don't have.

Second-hand books (just make sure you get the right edition...) :

AbeBooks (mostly ex-library stock from across the world, and usually in very good condition, with fast postage) : https://www.abebooks.co.uk/

Also ALibris : https://www.alibris.co.uk/books - similar to above.

Oxfam Books (more mainstream books but also has academic/text books) : https://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/books

If you are enrolled at a UK Uni you will have access to well stocked libraries and increasingly much of this stock is also available as a digital copy via your library login. And, you can request books from other Uni libraries via inter-library loan - ask your library.

Sorry for the delayed reply, but thanks so much! Unfortunately I haven't gotten any student details from my uni yet so can't access library services, but I'll check out your other suggestions!

Is it worth taking a look at student message boards? I was able to get a lot of my course reading from people who had just finished their degrees and were looking to pass on texts.

Your local library (or local university library) should be able to arrange loans. Most university libraries offer visitor access/membership of some sort.

To be honest, I've been on two different courses in university and never needed books. Maybe that's just due to my courses (Computer Science and now Media), so I've never had to look very hard.

I know there are a lot of book PDFs you can get your hands on that float around Google. Try typing in the name of whatever you're interested in, just fire the word 'free' or 'read online', something like that.

Should be fine.
