There was a horrible screech in my car when I unintentionally changed gear whilst accelerating. The screech was less than a second long.

How likely is it that I've damaged the gear box because of it?

If it drives fine now, you've (99.99% chance) done no damage at all that you or anyone will notice for the lifetime of the car.

Should be okay if the car still drives normally, you probably came off the clutch without putting it into gear properly. I've done it once or twice and had no issues

This may sound stupid but did you notice an acrid smell? That's a sign of a burnt out clutch. I agree with the other replies though, you probably just missed the gear, i've done it before a few times and nothing bad has come of it yet, if you're really worried go to a garage and get it checked

Yeah, it just sound like you missed a gear, in which case there will be a tiny amount of gearbox wear but it’s nothing to worry about if it only happens once in a blue moon.

Probably tiny amount of synchro wear, nothing to do with clutch or engine wear if it didn’t go in gear.
