I have applied for a social work course at this university which requires the students to have placements in either Greater Merseyside, Cheshire West, Chester or West Lancashire. I am black and have visited Chester before and felt extremely uncomfortable the whole time that I was there. I have also had friends tell me that some areas in Greater Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire can be racist. Can any black students who have done or are doing a social work course at this university tell me if they have experienced any kind of racism in the university, at their placements or just day to day living around this area?
