If you apply for special consideration, what happens?

e.g. who gets to know, UCAS or the markers etc.
and what do they do? just give you extra marks?

apparently nobody finds out what they have decided to award you, although there are guidelines on what they should give for what, you dont get told how much you have been awarded, if you have been awarded anything. is what i got told

The amount you get awarded depends on the circumstances.

A maximum of 5% and that's if an immediate family member has died...

You also have to get it sorted pretty quickly; if you believe you've been adversely affected during any of your exams, you have to apply for special consideration within 7 days of the last exam in that series.

hm, my boyfriend has been passing out all over the place lately and was told if he was ill/got ill during the exams he might be awarded his predicted grades, but not sure if thats special consideration exactly, its diffeent when your ill, but the point was it interrupted his revision.
you could always write to your universities and exaplin the situation and that you're really worried u wont have done as well as u wanted and would they please consider this when they get your grades.
Its better to do it now than on results day.

for my AS maths and history (2nd june) the college had a power failure and the exams were delayed by 2 hours. the principal applied for special consideration. i doubt it will be very much though.

My friend's mother died a week before he did his economics exam...she had terminal cancer, and he was distraught. Our head of year put him in for 'special consideration' and I think he would get about 30% discretion for his marks....I'm not about to kill my parents though to get more marks!!!

I have three guinea pigs and three exams left...coincidence i think not

A similar thing happened to me, my tutor wrote to the exam boards and said I would get 5% etra/ Where did you get the figure 30% from?

Also if you tell the uni you hope to go to (presuming you're in yr 13) they are more likely to let you in if you miss your offer by a grade or two.
