Do I have to pay tax if I earn less than 12,000 a year?

Very little as the personal allowance is £11,850 a year. Anything over that until 34,500 (the remainder when you deduct the 11,850) you pay 20% on. So you would pay tax on 150. There are other possible exemptions tho.

Oh that’s fine, I’m going to be studying while working a little too, I think my yearly income will result less than 10,000 for sure.. does that mean I don’t pay any tax?

Yes. That’s right. If you do end up paying tax call HMRC and you’ll be able to claim a refund.

The personal allowance is 12,500 for 19/20

don't forget NI contributions. you'll pay 12% on earnings over 166 a week or 664 a month
