Hi all,

I started my apprenticeship January 2019 (8months ago) and I’m really enjoying the company I’m working at. Im doing my level3 in Financial Services for Insurance and getting along quite well.

I travel 2hours40 round trip each day, work 2 Saturdays a month on a 40 hour contract. I’m currently getting around £1500 a month after tax, NI and the rest of it...

Another insurer has approached me and offered me an apprenticeship with them. It’s the same qualification however only a 12 month contract (I’m on a 15 month contract at the moment). They pay is better by around 5k per year after tax (so £2000 per month). The only downside being I’d have to leave my current apprenticeship and start from scratch. The journey to the new insurer is only an hour round trip.

Struggling to weigh the pros and cons...

Anyone been in a similar position? Any advice?

I’m 17 and technically in ‘year 12’ as I’m a 2018 secondary school leaver.

Cheers x

One way to look at it, £500 difference is only £41 difference a month. Is the job worth it still? Depends if it’s closer to home so the travel isn’t as bad. Also if you’re making £1500 a month on an apprenticeship and at your age, you’re doing amazingly well.
