Hi,

I want to go into finance but I am doing a degree in physics with astrophysics. The area I want to go in is quantitative finance so I have already started to develop my programming skills further (have programming modules and I have had an internship as a software engineer) and have been looking at possible summer internships to help boost my prospects. I also have been looking into financial theory.

What else can I do to gain experience and what skills will I require?

I also intend to move into this area following graduating in computer science (1st) and serving in the armed forces. There are various sites out there with more information. Physics is more than suitable. From what I understand, there is a development side (quantitative developer) vs a quantitative analyst (these people tend to come from pure mathematics phd backgrounds). I assume in physics you will be learning c++ and MATLAB or some variation. You should work on your own time to develop these skills.
