Am I missing something?

30,000/(3.50x12) = 700 + 100/7.

Yes you are.

It's £35 for a year, not 3.50x12.

30,000/35 = 857.

Buy a house in America. When the economy recovers, sell it for a massive profit.
To be honest, I don't think a $60,000 house would be worth the effort

lucky me, been left some money! what can i do with it hmmmmm....
This is just my opinion, but inheritance money isn't really for spending.

My gran left me some money about a year ago and I spent some of it on the usual stuff, CDs, drinks etc. and then I thought, hang on, my gran has left me this money this technically is NOT my money, therefore I should not spend it on stupid things. So I put it into a variety of safe blue chip investments and it will hopefully go somewhere towards putting a down-payment on my first house or something - which i think is a much better use of the money than spending it on something stupid (like a car).

Give the lot of it to charity, you don't need it.
