Insulin/Glucagon.- regulating the blood concentration
ADH- controls the permeability of the collecting duct in the kidneys
Gastrin/Secretin/CCK-PZ- whole range of hormones that affects the disgestive system-
Oestrogen/Progesterone- From Module 2.
Adrenaline/Noradrenaline-one's sympathetic/other's parasympathetic- so bringing in neurones into this.
Could also talk about the hormonal control- which is stimulated by nervous control, which acts much longer. etc. this could go alongside gastrin/secretin/CCK-PZ. etc.

Hormones:
Digestive ones: Secretin, Gastrin, CCK-PZ
Ovulation: FSH, LH, Oestrogen, Progesterone
Respiration: CoA,NAD any others?
Photosynthesis: RuBP*something*, NADP (i don't know the name of this hormone anyone?)

Hormone recogntion: glycoproteins on the cell membrane
Water Regulation: ADH

Anything else? We don't actually cover what hormones are made from do we?
Those aren't hormones
- they are coenzymes, Except for RuBP which is a 5-carbon sugar.

Condensation, hydrolysis, like: glucose-->glycogen, cellullose, sugar-phosphate backbone, peptide links (amide links). Hydrolysis of protein by enzymes.
Plants!!! And all that rubbish.
Use in photosynthesis to replace the electrons which are excited.
Use in respiration as H+ ions are combined with oxygen to make water.
Can't think of much else? you?

So how much detail do we need to get into in the essay. e.g. for hormones would you write about the whole oestrus cycle.. and everything about anything to do with hormones. Or would you just mention that hormones are used in the oestrus cycle and which ones... I'm so confused So hard trying to learn respiration again aswell

i asked that in another forum because that would be my idea of a gift from God and for some reason i can't get it out of my head that hormones are gonna come up and i keep looking over it. Anyway the answer to your question is: no there has not been an essay question on hormones before (from what i know of anyway)

BUT since there was a hormonal control 5 markers on BYA6 does that not make hormones less likely? And i'm sure i've seen a pre-2005 past paper with hormones on.

The topics which havent come up in an essay yet are:

membranes
lipids (the only unit 1 nutrient not yet done)
SA:volume
hormones
gaseous exchange
nucleic acids
protein synthesis
genetic engineering
digestion
stimulus/response
thermoregulation
active movement across membranes.

We were given this list by the Chef Examiner and told it would definately (and he better not be lying!) be one of these.

^^ Yeah  Nottingham halls have the best cheesecake (i'm not joking either I had some when I stayed there on the Sutton Trust!)

There wasn't much on Hb or dissociation curves or neurones (really) especially synapses and no genetics. Synoptic genetics essay would be a gift!

EDIT: On that list GAS EXCHANGE is sticking out like a sore thumb. Exchange and transport, alveoli, gills, prokaryotes, plants, insects, adaptations response to exercise (intercostals etc)

Also thermoregulation would be a gift.

What synoptic genetic stuff would you include? I suppose there's mutations which cause variation, genetic engineering, meiosis + inheritance, but i can't think of much for that topic. I haven't actually ever tried any of the Nottingham food! Is it any good?

No for the most part. The Cheesecake was immense though.

Thermoregulation would be good. Should probably think of a few specific adaptations to chuck in as well. Fennec foxes, camels and one more perhaps.
