It varies between sixth forms but I'd imagine so. At my sixth form college you can do what you want during free periods. Do homework, listen to music, play on laptop, go round shops, go home, chat to friends, whatever.

Depends on the college, at ours we could listen to music or work on laptops, but they'd tell us off if we were on our phones for too long picking songs or messing about. That was also only in the study rooms/library, where we were supervised - we weren't meant to be on our phones elsewhere, but they couldn't exactly stop us.

In my sixth form (which is part of an 11-18 secondary school, not just a sixth form college) you can stay in the common rooms or go to the library or study rooms during your free periods. You can listen to music anywhere and teachers don't check that you're doing work so someone could easily get away with goofing off in their frees, but it would be a very bad idea to waste your time like that.

I'm fairly sure most sixth forms don't care about whether or not students listen to music when working as long as they're not in a lesson.
