Denitrification- Synoptic Paper Edexcel Watch
In particular this question from June 2003:
-refering to the procress where Nitrate iones are turned into Nitrogen Gas**, describe and explain the conditions under which it occurs. (3)
Thanks for any help in advance!! greatly appreciated!!!
1) Denitrification is anaerobic so requires conditions with little or no oxygen such as waterlogged soil.
2) It is aided by bacteria which work in these anaerobic conditions such as thiobacillus and pseudomonas.
3) If oxygen is present, then denitrification fails and nitrification takes over.
hope that helps.
Read the stuff above the question, it usually gives away some of the answers! Where did you get june 03 if you don't mind me asking? Could you provide a link?
