Hi guys, I've been conditionally offered a trainee intelligence officer role in London. I was really hoping to get the investigator role, does anyone know if we can swap roles after the initial training.

We were told in the assessment centre that there was potential for a lateral move once the 2 year training was completed. If there were circumstances during the training then they could offer you the different route depending on if it was right business wise to change the route.

Hi thank you, that's what I thought as well. I've just been offered a job as a PC in the Met Police as well. Want to be a detective so both roles would take at least two years to get to that sort of job either way. Not really sue which one to take.

The two are very different. NCA is specialist organised crime investigations. Very specific, resource intensive, long term investigations which cover threats across the U.K. highly intelligence led, often covert and often working with partner agencies to achieve outcomes. 1 arrest can be two years in the making. The Police you will be dealing with volume local crimes. A lot of offences against the person, frauds, missing persons, thefts aswell as drugs crimes, etc. More overt investigations and much more reacting to crimes which have happened rather than hoping to infiltrate crimes in action. You will do a lot more interviewing suspects and witnesses and arrests. You will also be much closer to the victims of crime.

I’ve not had one at all since this began. I’ve been in the candidate pool since mid March. Then my conditional offer last week. Not heard anything at all.
What have the news letters been saying? That’s if you have had one.

On top of what J204life said, you'll almost certainly be doing investigations even as a uniform police. There's just too many cases and not enough police for it all to go to dedicated detectives. Just remember if you choose police that you will be happy doing day-to-day policing.

I studied Policing in university. I remembered when I started the first year it was 200 of us in the lectures but by end of 3rd year it was only 25 of us left. just remember both of these jobs are completely different from what you see Jon TV and other media. Have you considered Detective Pathway ? the application is open now and you cab join police as trainee detective. and after 18 months you will become a qualified Detective. A lot of people joined NCA or Police and left because it wasn't what they were thinking it is. I am sure you have done your researches and made your decision to move into law enforcement. Policing and law enforcement is not just investigation and arresting. I am sure other police officers or law enforcement officer will tell you this. 80% paper works and office and 20% chasing bad guys and handcuffing and cautioning them. Police and Detective pathway will help you to gain PIP1 and PIP2 ( detective ) which gives you more future career options ( private sectors). Investigation roles could be more practical and operational but intelligence means a lot of waiting games and time consuming procedures. sorry I didn't mean to sound harsh or big headed but I have seen so many people whom wanted to become DC or even PC but they dropped out after 2 years in service or earlier. again I do think you consider law enforcement as you have applied for more than one role or agency.

Once your SC application on the UKSV portal shows completed are you informed of the decision by the NCA vetting team?

I’d like to know too. Mine have been showing complete for over a week now but no update.

I have been trying to retrieve my login details for the portal and it doesn’t seem to be letting me so not sure what the status is on my checks. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

The login is no longer valid after a certain amount of time from when it's "completed", i.e. when UKSV have done their stuff.

Are there people here whose portal still says 'Application under review' following the very first test/person statement stage. I don't understand how they are doing their recruitment but at this point they have probably launched their 2020 recruitment let alone the 2019 one. Will they not tell us we have been unsuccessful?

I’m in this position too, they’ve delayed the next wave of recruiting trainees to get through this lot I believe so I’d still be optimistic of getting to an assessment centre
