The shift patterns are generally fluid and it’s more important you can flex rather than being fixed. If you are in a department which needs to offer some kind of threat to life response, then you may need to work shifts. But the majority of the round the clock stuff is kept to a minimum and cover often provided by the 24/7 control centre and a number of on call staff. Obviously this may be different whilst Covid is ongoing.

Usually, people work flexi and just need to do there hours over the week providing there’s nothing which needs urgent attention. Some people start early and other start late. Most folk work Monday to Friday on a normal week.

If you are needed to work a long day or an early start for arrests etc, you get the time back. But these are often planned in advance. Bosses are very understanding.

If you are on a training course, the trainers will probably ask at the start of the week what days people want to work and that will be that. Courses tend to be run in Warrington or London so you may need to be away from home on those weeks. Courses usually run to allow for travel on Monday morning (late start) and Friday afternoon (early finish).

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated

By all means, I don't disagree. I'm just dropping in a reminder, as someone who works a job which requires similar diligence is all!

And almost every comment under the usernames in this thread is linked to this or other professional discussions about civil service/Police applications process etc. Takes all of 2 minutes to find you telling people how tall you are and the size of your penis just on TSR.

Can I ask, are you supposed to keep application to join the NCA secret? A friend who works for the government was told not to tell people about her job application at the time and thinks the NCA must be the same but I don’t recall being told this?

For those roles they do normally advise not to tell anybody at the time of applying.

There was nothing on the NCA application to state that the application should be kept under wraps

I personally have only told close family and a couple of friends but that is just through choice rather than a requirement.

Thanks, only my OH knows and a couple of close friends but, much like you, that was a personal choice

It’s natural to think that - I’m sure we all do! Hindsight is great but I’m sure the assessors know that, with more time or a second attempt, we might do/respond differently. Did you have your AC recently?

I know they said that it could take up to the end of July, so I wouldn’t worry. Did you go to the London one?

Hi everyone, just wondering what kind of maths you had to do throughout the application process like was maths tested in the online assessments?

I don’t recall any maths specific assessments either on the application form, online assessment or at the assessment centre

I had mine in March (16th) and had my start date confirmed at the start of last week - this is for Sunderland though and the start date is 3rd August so that could be why it was quick!
