A friend of a friend got an NCA offer. Met the team, got measured, suited and booted. Emailed regarding start date and got ghosted. 11 months later were told there weren’t any positions going. Run lol

Same here! I got measured for my vest, even though it was likely I would do intel analyst pathway. I also did my drug test and was about to start PEC. Got similar answer but told them exactly my story, and then said they didn't know the timeline. Two weeks ago, following an email I sent, they told me that they would update us in next couple of weeks. Its really been frustrating, despite telling me I had the offer and I would start soon. But we stay strong and wait patiently, we will get it, I'm sure of it.

IMO you have to consider if it’s this bad just trying to get into the job (when ideally they want to make a good impression on you) what will it be like actually in the role?

You sound smart so it’ll work out for you either way but I reckon you should keep an eye out for other analyst/intelligence roles, not pinning your hopes on NCA given the poor treatment. “When people show you who they are, believe them”

I already work in private risk intelligence, shipped out to Singapore. But this is something I banked on, because I was actually successful. I've been through worse, my current company is also mismanaged but I persevere. Hopefully I can do the same for NCA. Always nice to stay optimistic, even in tough times. Plus, I like a little challenge hahah.

I really hope it works out for you and you’re treated well wherever you end up

If I'm correct front facing roles, like law enforcement and intelligence, would be untouched based on reeves outlined in her budget. Cuts are mostly to admin and policies. So it's likely we're safe. Also, if I'm correct, the AC was more to see what roles we were best suited for, rather than being pass or fail. They told me, at least, that I already had the job and that the AC was more of a formality. Usually the AC would be done during first year of training, so we select our pathway during our job rather than be allocated beforehand. But they changed it to streamline the process.

Can I check who gave you this information? Because when I spoke to someone over the phone to confirm my AC dates, I was told the same thing but was then told differently on the day.

At the AC, I was told you needed to pass at least one of the assessments in order to progress and I think something about roles being allocated by locational availability (can't remember for sure about that or if I heard it from someone else) and until one becomes available, you're on a waiting list. To me, that also suggests there could be a level of merit here if one role opens up and they've got two candidates - surely they'll pick the one who scored higher?

I was also told over the phone that if you "failed" this (did extraordinary badly, they also stressed this is something you can't really fail), they'd put you on a "regular" pathway (can't remember the details of what this meant) but when I asked at the AC, the staff had no knowledge of this.

Sooooo, I'm not exactly sure what to think anymore 😭😭😭 I also emailed them around two weeks ago and got the same canned response of "we are working on providing updates to candidates over the coming weeks."...

On another note, does anyone know of careers/roles that would be similar to the NCA ODP? I have a non-law enforcement background in very different albeit public sector/public good roles but am really interested in this sort of thing - organised crime, financial crime & corruption, counter-extremism - and learning the skills of intelligence and analysis.

Thanks and wish everyone still checking this thread all the best 🙏🙏🙏

IMO you should set an alert on CS jobs for “analytical” and “intelligence” jobs. Then sit back and relax! Check your email regularly  lots of people in these jobs without a law enforcement background

I got information from one of the NCA personnel on the day. They did say that you can 'fail it's but it's very very rare. They told me not worry as that is near to impossible to fail. Unless you can't read and write in English, then you'll be fine. Failure means you haven't filled you name nor answer anything.

From what you said, it seems that either way, we get in, either through one of the pathways or the 'general' pathway.

They also told me there isn't a specific pass or fail, but obviously if you score higher for one, then you will likely be considered for that pathway. They did this to ensure you would enjoy your experience at the agency, given the low retention rate.

With regards to the roles, it depends what you are doing and what department you chose. For my cohort, it seemed everyone wanted to be an investigator, so lists for that could be longer.

They haven't really been clear with this, because on the candidate pack it said that I would only need to do an interview to get offer. The PEPs was, based on what I was told from them, to be more of knowing our preferences to ensure we get a position best suited to our interests, rather than being competitive. I was told by multiple NCA personnel that I had the job.

Finally, it seems that posting depends on your qualifications and your socioeconomic background, and department of choice rather than solely scores. Remember, the pathways are split into different sub departments focusing on specific specialisms, such as economic crime or kleptocracy.

Did you also get the email apologising for "extreme delays". I found it quite funny that they would still only aim to get results out in the next 10 working days!

Got an email saying I’ve been placed on the reserve list. Has anyone been offered a job, or is everyone on the reserve list? Also, does anyone know what the ‘Interview 2’ scores are out of?

Hi, same here! I think this means there isn't a role available in my region rather than someone scored higher? Which is incredibly frustrating and surprising considered my 1st preference for location was London.

Unsure on the scoring criteria. If we go by typical civil standard scoring (1-7), I did very poorly on the Intel but acceptable for the rest.

Hi all,

My wife and I applied for the NCA ODP in Jan 2024. We passed the sift and interviews and were invited to the Assessment Centre on 16 July 2024. We were told this stage wasn’t pass or fail but would assess which role suited us best Intelligence Officer, Analyst, or Investigator with offers or reserve list depending on availability.

After following up five times with no clear update, we both received a rejection email on 5 May 2025 saying we were unsuccessful. This felt misleading, considering what was said throughout the process.

I also requested reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010, which were confirmed but not provided on the day.

Has anyone else had the same outcome or experience? Would appreciate hearing from others.

Thanks,
C.
