It's a disgrace. Mind you, normally the ones that charge you are the dodgy ones you get in Spar shops and pubs - by the time the night grows old and you're blinded with drink, you don't notice or care that you've been charged.

Me too. I'd rather walk half a mile to the free one on principle.

I didn't have much choice.

The machine was like "we will charge you £2/per click"

Even worse, I am sure the machine was mocking me and laughing.

what gets me, is that its the bloody bank - they have the money!!?!!!?

If they don't charge us there, they'll get us another way.

I never use ATMs that charge. I'd rather walk further and get my money out for free.

I won't use them unless desperate. I really don't understand the lazy people I see at petrol station cash machines getting charged, when there's a free one five minutes down the road, and another one five minutes from that! Seriously, if you're that lazy, despite having a car!, then you deserve to be charged.

I think it's a bit ****ty that they have them in nightclubs. It's taking advantage of drunk people who don't realise they're getting charged!

I never use ATMs anyway, my account only lets me have a Bankbook OR a card so I use the book

Well, there was a time (and it's true in other countries i believe) that there wasn't "free banking" as we have.

Still getting a good deal, stop complaining :P

(i never use machines which charge either, i'll walk for miles to get around em too :P)

I dunno, to be honest.

Most ATMs don't charge you, it's the ones set up by non-bank companies that do. If they're convenient and you need to take money out of them why are you complaining when they need to make back the money the spend on buying, installing and stocking that machine?

I have used a cash machine that charged but only once, the free one was out of money like usual and i was in a rush to go out so i practically ran all of the way to the spar by me to use the machine. I think the charge was £1.99 or something, but normally i do go out of my way to use the free ones.

they're punishing you for using another bank and then having the audacity of using their ATM, like you're committing some kind of crime in not wanting to walk twice as far to use another machine.

The nearest ATM to my college charged £1.50 - I used it a few times. That's the price of laziness.

Isn't it the cash machine operator that makes the charge, not the bank? Most, if not all, of the cashpoints which are attached to banks are free to users of any bank. I thought it was the company that owns the cash machine that makes the money, not the banks.

I always use a free one - if people want to pay £2 or whatever to access their money they are most welcome to, but I'd rather not pay that.

The charging ones must say "THIS ATM WILL CHARGE YOU £X FOR CASH WITHDRAWALS" - personally I think it would be a good idea to also have them say "The nearest free ATM is located at Asda" or whatever.
