Hey alicew2908,

I studied at Bucks New University, and it is a great course!

There are several cohorts that have some overlapping modules, but essentially specialise in different areas. Definitely look into them and see which your prefer. This really serves as your first networking opportunity. As you enter into the working world, you will notice that us Bucks graduates are working in all corners of the industry.

The course is great as it really gives you knowledge in a wide range of areas that will all assist you with your music career. Trust me, it benefits you to have knowledge of the whole picture, as well as your area of expertise. Additionally, the studios are amazing. They have top of the range equipment, and are available for you to use with fellow students, and also with artists you may be working with externally.

Location wise, Bucks is just outside London. This means that you can access the UK’s musical capital with ease, and still benefit from the reduced cost of being outside the M25. If you choose to take on an internship alongside your studies, which I would definitely advise, then you can easily travel into London from your university accommodation – like I did.

The tutors are great. They are all still actively working in and around the music industry. This means you are being taught by people that know what is happening in real time, can help connect you with companies you may have an interest in, and can give you great advice.

The best advice I can give you is to attend open days. This allows you to meet with the tutors, check out the facilities and get an all-round feel for the place.

I loved my time at Bucks. I had so many amazing experiences including the internships I did throughout, time studying abroad, and expanding my network with other students, the staff and guest lecturers. What you put in is definitely what you get out.

Best of luck with everything!

Rebecca

Hi alicew2908,

It's good to hear you're thinking of studying here with us at Solent!

What is it that's got you so interested in Music Management, have you always been interested in music?

I'm sure you've already looked but here's an overview of one of our courses I'm sure you would be interested in. Southampton has a vibrant music scene, and Solent mirrors that with it's students. Earlier this year I attended the music award ceremony that was filled with live music provided by current students and lecturers. The buzz was inspiring! It was very clear how encouraging the School of Music and Performance is and how this environment can help students to truly flourish.

The lecturers on this course all have industry experience, which we believe really helps to give a rounded view of the industry and can ensure you're ahead of others. Some are even still involved with the industry, they just can't get enough!

Solent is based in the Southampton City Centre, meaning you're a short walk from shops, clubs, pubs, gyms and various other amenities. West Quay is just around the corner (one of the UK's largest shopping centres), and you're close to the beautiful south coast too. We are also a short walk from the train station offering ease of travel all around the country.

Southampton has something unique to offer for everyone.

There are lots of job opportunities in and around Southampton to suit everyone, whether that be for part time employment over your time at University, or to provide you with relevant industry experience. There is even the opportunity to find work within the University that can be easily worked around your studies. It's always worth thinking about earning a little extra money if you can.

I would certainly advise coming to Solent and exploring our campus for yourself to get a true feel for the University and whether the dynamic suits you. You will be studying for 3+ years, so you need to make sure you're happy. Feel free to come along to our Open Days, and make sure to explore Southampton while you're here!

Good luck with your researching, but take your time on this decision, you need to do what is best for you! Solent is a lovely university and I have certainly found where I belong, and I want everyone else to feel the same.

Let us know if you need anything more,

Thank you!

Izzy

Hi alicew2908

Great to hear you are considering studying at Hertfordshire! I have spent the last 2 years at Herts and loved it.

Finding the best University can be difficult. It took me a long time to figure out what Uni would be best for me. Have you been to open days for the above Universities? If not you can find information about our open days here. Visiting the University will help you get a feel for the course, the campus, and the area.

The Music Industry Management course at Hertfordshire is accredited by the Music Academic Partnership (MAP) and has been awarded TEF Gold for its teaching quality. The University and its lecturers provide close links to the music industry. Additionally we have a range of visiting lecturers who have worked with Universal Music Catalogue, Red Bull Music House, BPI, EMI Records, 2Point9 and Parlophone.

The course covers areas such as Marketing for the Music Business, The Live Music Sector, Popular Music: History, Context and Impact and Media Law. You can read more about our Music Industry Management course here.

The University of Hertfordshire is based on two campuses in Hatfield connected via 5 minute shuttle bus. Hatfield has great transport links: London is a 25 minute train away and St Albans is a 15 minute bus/30 minute cycle ride away. The Music Industry Management course is based on our College Lane campus which has large green spaces, a 24/7 Library, a nightclub, pub, 24/7 gym and hundreds of newly built Halls of Residence! If you're commuting we are just a 5-8 minute drive away from the M25!

Studying at Hertfordshire has been a lot of fun - I've entered go kart races with the Motorsport Society, been on countless nights out at The Forum (our on-campus club) and I have just spent a year working in Industry as part of my placement year. We have a vast range of Sports facilities too, such as a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, squash courts, indoor & outdoor pitches and 2 gyms.

If you have any further questions about Herts, don't hesitate to ask me!
