foundation year at liverpool uni

So, I got my results back for my alevels, and i got offered a changed offer for a foundation year in mechatronics. Thing is, I've already applied for accommodation at liverpool uni and wouldn't know what to do for it in Carmel college. Also, how would financing work? do I still get a student loan? becuase uh. Im going to be struggling with that, let alone without it. Basically I got an offer and i know pretty much nothing about what I'm doing, so if anyone who does know has any advice, that would be great!

You'd get a student loan for the foundation year, so you don't need to worry about that.

I'd suggest contacting Liverpool to talk to them about accommodation and if they would still offer this to you?

What were your A-level results?

Can you share some information with me so I can advise you better?

What was your offer?

The best thing to do is contact the uni to see what they can suggest in terms of swapping your accommodation. This is definitely something they should be able to help you with.

In terms of your finance, it should be a simple task of calling your finance provider and getting them to change the course over.

@She-Ra @SarcAndSpark my offer was ABB and i got bcd in physics, chemistry and maths. The clearing entry for the course did drop to bbc, but i still don't meet it. Liverpool has confirmed they'll still offer accomodation, though financing travel is still hard because my student loan doesn't even cover that.

Liverpool confirming they'll offer accommodation is good.

If your student loan is going to be quite low, it's probably because your household income is quite high- are your parents able to help you out at all?

Otherwise you may need to look into getting a part time job etc.

Given your results, the foundation year could be a good option- if you pass the year are you guaranteed a place at Liverpool?

My household income is definitely high, but i'd really rather not rely on my parents. its not a pride thing- our relationship isnt great, and they alternate between 'you /have/ to rely on us for money at uni' and 'im not paying for uni youre lucky im letting you stay in this house /now/' on a moments notice, especially when things dont happen the way they want (i got an unconditional to staffs, so i might be able to go there as a back up, but thats resulted in a lot of threats). It's not really something i want to deal with when im already at uni, especially given that if they did get mad, it could leave me completely screwed.
And i have a part-time job, but not a lot saved up - maybe enough to cover the first time of accomodation on top of the loan, but after that its not great, especially since i really want to finally get on medication for my adhd at the start of uni so it doesn't screw me over, and given the way the nhs is going thats probably going to cost me between £70-140 a month.
The way the email is worded implies that the foundation year is part of the course, so I'd be immediately put into year one once i complete it.
I'm now wondering if it would be possible for my to apply for a delayed entry with my results, and start for the first year of the course next year. that way I'd be able to a) focus more on working and earning money, and b) actually get the adhd thing sorted, because theres been a lot of issues with me not being able to get treatment for it, which means i'll then be in a much better mindset for uni. But am i right in assuming my grades are too low for them to consider giving me the offer?

I've been thinking about this some more- since liverpool tends to be fairly lenient on grades, and the clearing grades for the course i want is bbc (meaning im only two grades below) plus being able to get contextual offers due to my school, is it worth me contacting the university and talking to them about potentially getting onto the course? I dont think i can go through clearing without declining my offers, which i dont want to do, especially since it would mean going to staffs by default, but can i email them specifically under the whole 'changing course' thing to talk to them about it, or would it be pointless?
(also, i realise i didn't tag you in the last post, sorry! @SarcAndSpark)

I totally understand your situation. Unfortunately, student finance is worked out on your household income unless you can prove estrangement. Maybe when you get to uni, talk to the finance office there and see if they can offer you any additional support?

Have you looked into getting DSA support for your ADHD?

I mean, it's worth talking to Liverpool- but they have obviously made the decision not to offer you the usual course- but it's worth giving them a ring and talking through your options.

(I've just realised i can reply directly... i dont use tsr much)
Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to do, but I think im just going to have to find a way to make more money or cave and borrow some while I'm at uni. I hadn't looked into that, I've tried checking out the options before but it was all pretty confusing, but that looks really helpful, thank you!

I'm going to try talking about it to them soon - just want to make sure my own thoughts are organised first. If not, I'll just have to take the foundation year (which isn't a big deal anyway) and hope it all works out.

thanks for the help!!

No worries, definitely get in touch with your student support or finance department at uni, they can often make discretionary hardship payments or find you a small bursary which may help out!

Yeah, maybe make some notes about your situation and explain how keen you are to be able to do the course, as well as any questions you need to ask about the foundation year! Good luck!

Hi I'm doing the foundation year at the University of Liverpool. I'm staying on campus at Crown Place, the university still recommend staying on campus. You complete your first year at Carmel College. It's £350 for the bus pass for the whole year, and that'll take you all around Liverpool as well.

You will still get your student loan but you must contact student finance to tell them of your change of course because the tuition fee for year 0 is less than £9000

good to know! 350 isn't bad, i guess.

I honestly have been trying to find out as much information as possible on Carmel college’s foundation program. I have already read that the commute is going to be long, so I am prepared for it. But I also heard that the classes there are like regular sixth form classes and not like how a university lecture would be. I also wanted to find out about how many people there would be in my lectures/course and so on. But god, there is barely any information available. Since the foundation programme is something that Liverpool university conducts, accommodation and everything else is as it would be if you were doing a Year 1 course.

To anyone who sees this: you can also go uni of york, pay £4.5k tuition and get in uni teaching (far better) then transfer to liverpool. I done this
