Psychology(+criminology)

Hello!

I’m applying for uni in January but don’t know if I should choose to only study psychology independently or psychology and criminology, im leaning towards becoming a psychologist, but I really want to study criminology too but is it gonna hinder my chances of becoming a psychologist if I study both and not only psychology?

Do you have a specific set of universities you want to apply to? If not, I would recommend having a look at UCLan. The BSc Psychology and Criminology is accredited by the British Psychological Society so you can study both and not worry about hindering your chances of coming a psychologist.

I do have a list with multiple universities I’m checking out, but as long as it is accredited by BPS it won’t hinder my chances?

And thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out

Yeah, all postgrad psychology degrees require BPS accreditation, particularly important if you want to go on and become a clinical psychologist. If you decide to do research then BPS accreditation isn’t important, I did a non-accredited undergrad in Neuroscience and now I’m doing a masters of research in psychology. So it really depends on what you want to do in future but you may as well get the accreditation so you keep your options open.

Do you have any idea which area of psychology you want to specialise in?

You do not specialise until post grad.

Is UClan inadequate?

It is hardly the greatest of institutions, but I guess it depends on what grades you obtain.

Honestly I wouldn’t worry, for now shop around see what courses/unis work for you.

I know... it’s just that you have to do a lot of preparation to study in another country and I’m a bit stressed...
