Who has right of way?

So there's this roundabout where I live that's always kind of confused me as I don't know who has right of way. I'll attach links on google maps as it's easier to see what I mean.

Position 1: https://maps.app.goo.gl/D778y8FL1yuiJCxs6

Position 2:

Usually when I use this roundabout I'm at position 2 turning left at the give way. Most the time if there is a car at position 1 they will give way to me and let me go first. However, today I was turning left and the car at position 1 didn't stop so I had to brake hard to avoid a collision. This has always confused me. Who actually has right of way here? Both positions have a give way marking. Is it a poorly marked roundabout or am I being stupid because I feel like it was mu fault but at the same time shouldn't the other car have given me right of way since there is a marking on the road at position 1 to give right of way to the cars coming from the left as I was?

Position 1 has priority over Position 2 providing they decide to enter the roundabout from their own give way marking.

So why does position 1 have to give way to the 2 lanes going straight but not to the lane turning left? Wouldn't it be easier to just have one give way marking at position 1 and give priority to all the lanes from the left?

yeah you (position 2) have to give way to position 1. Position 1 is the only other one who can enter that left turn (into N.Donside road) so that is who you are giving way to. He isn't giving way to you, he is giving way to people entering the roundabout. Therefore position 1 has right of way.

You are giving way to him. Otherwise you wouldn't need to give way. Who did you think you were giving way to?

Because the lane turning left has a give way marking on it...

Ahh that makes sense fair enough. I just feel like it would be easier if position 1 had to give way to all 3 lanes. Most people do that anyway actually I don't see the point in there being a give way at position 2. Usually that roundabout is quite busy so position 1's path is blocked anyway so position 2 can just leave the roundabout immediately or position 1 usually just gives way to position 2 anyway. At least I know now I need to give way.

I know but I'm just saying it feels a bit pointless having a give way at position 2. Most people in position 1 give way to position 2 anyway. I did used to stop at the give way at position 2 when required but the car at position 1 would always let me go first anyway because I think most people are unsure themselves who has right of way. I guess I've just gotten into a bad habit of thinking I have right of way then. At least I know the right thing now.
