I am due to begin studying at Derby University at the end of September. I am unable to transfer my workplace to the store in that area. However, I can transfer to a neighbouring store which is a 10-20 minute train from Derby. Although, this would mean deducting £40 a month out of my paycheck to pay for those train fares. My hours could vary from 8+. Which means once that train fare is deducted on my minimum contract I am left with around £180, possibly more if I pick up more hours on the days I work.

The alternative is to get a job in a retail store around Derby or hopefully get one within the University. Which means I wouldn't have to deduct those travel costs as they would be within walking distance. The only down side to this is when we finish Uni at the end of the year I will probably be out of a job. Whereas if I just transfer stores I can transfer back to my home town store during half terms and summer break.

I don't know which one would be better financially and I am very stuck :/

PLEASE HELP

I got a job in Derby, and went full-time over christmas and summer all three years of my undergraduate. Stayed in Derby for the summer to continue earning money and pay rent for the next year. The train station is a long way from the uni and the accommodations, so unless you live close to the train station, add bus costs and travel time.

Id look for a job in Derby with solid contracted part-time hours, enjoy your time in Derby. I made the best friends working!
