Why was first year accommodation much more expensive?
In first year, I was allocated a self-catered en-suite room -- it was really nice, but I was definitely paying through the nose for it. This year I'm in the cheapest room on campus --- a shared/twin room in a catered hall. It's a LOT cheaper -- but, ironically, the prices at my uni have raised so much in the last two years that a single room in the same budget hall is now just as expensive as my ~super super luxury~ room from first year was. Sucks that they're essentially pricing a lot of people out of accommodation... Any rooms below £6000 on campus are ones where you have to move out at the end of each term.

Rant aside -- that's why there's such a disparity here! Luckily, I know my roommate and we agreed to move in together into the twin room to both save money. 😊 The third year loan reduction is BRUTAL.
