Hello all, my name is Meghan and I’m about to embark on my final year of compulsory state education and, to put it eloquently, I am terrified.

This is the final chapter of my secondary education (previous instalments can be found here and here, the last of my rambling sagas following my journey into the exam hall, and the final book in the epic trilogy where, hopefully, myself and the supporting cast shall all have a happy ending because this story arc was not written by George R. R. Martin, thank you very much.

I start year 13 tomorrow which is absolutely terrifying. I remember being so intimidated by the year 13s throughout high school (and even college lmao) because they were big and scary and important, and now it’s me that’s big and scary and important I just don’t feel that way at all. I’m absolutely not old enough to be applying to uni and doing the most important exams of my life thus far and finishing compulsory education and actually going to uni at all.

So, uh, let's get this show on the road:

Subjects I used to love (and now often despise):
Spoiler:
Show
OCR English Literature

Selected Poems - Christina Rossetti
A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen
Twelfth Night - William Shakespeare
Dracula - Bram Stoker
The Bloody Chamber - Angela Carter

A Streetcar Named Desire - Tennessee Williams (coursework)
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr (coursework)
Selected Poems - W.B Yeats (coursework)

AQA History

Britain in Transition - 1906-1957 (depth)
Tsarist and Communist Russia - 1855-1964 (breadth)

War of the Roses:yucky: (coursework)

Eduquas French

Intouchables (film)
Antigone - Jean Anouilh (novel)
Independent Research Project (speaking component) on French Existentialist literature

EPQ

On the presentation of mental illness in Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway and Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar

Mocks, targets, predicted grades and all that jazz:

Spoiler:
Show

Predicted grades:

English Literature: A*
History: A*
French: A

Would love A*A*A* but that's so unrealistic, so I'm aiming for A*AA cos that's the highest entry requirement I'm looking at

Previous academic history n that:
Spoiler:
Show

5 9s and 4 8s at GCSE

AAB in year 12 mocks (B in English )

Universi-nay:
Spoiler:
Show
Wanting to study English literature (..and maybe become an English teacher?? Who knows man), and so far I've visited Leeds, Oxford, Cambridge and St Andrews. Seeing UCL, King's College London, Durham and York this month. Really not sure which five I'm picking but my ego and I are risking it all and applying to Oxford *gulp*

So join me in another year of freaking out about nothing, being overly dramatic and probably getting too overwhelmed by February and abandoning ship Titanic-style. There’ll be the trials and tribulations of BSing my way through my PS, the grand ‘...Oxford?!?’ conundrum and don’t even get me started on A-levels (which hopefully won’t be fail-levels, though anything can happen at this point. At least it’ll be good entertainment I suppose)

So let’s hope this year will be more of a Shakespearean comedy than a tragedy because we’re going to be POSITIVE and NOBODY IS GOING TO DIE (I mean this in a metaphorical sense ofc).

I'm also going into y13 although I am doing quite different subjects to you (Further Maths, Maths, Physics and Chemistry). I'm also absolutely ****ting myself about because I haven't done any work over summer as my school told me to do and I remember nothing from y12. I'm hoping for 4A*s but if I don't fix up and become a serious candidate that revises that's gonna be difficult! Good luck to you for y13!

I may not have any novels to read for my subjects but I'm certainly drowning in exercises and practices questions that I should've done!

Can't believe you didn't include the legendary Macbeth quote "I have given suck" in your banner

Glad to see my arbitrary dividing-udates-into-acts has caught on but can't deny it works extra well here

Hey, I agree. Long time, no see! Wow, I'm a poet and I didn't know it!

Anyway, it's going alright. My predicted grades are A*AC (thanks chemistry, thanks a f*cking lot lmao). With the highest grade in English language and the A in English literature because a score of 53/60 marks is still only a B grade for some reason (or so the mock boundaries say).

I'm just about to start writing the second part of my literature NEA just a day before my sixth form opens. As you can probably tell from that line, I'm not very prepared for A2. Anyway, if I get it done, I get it done.
