Is it too late to back out of uni?

Hey, basically I am anxiously wondering whether I can back out going to a UK uni this year, when I have already sent an application for student finance, been accepted for accomodation and it's already september. I only realised recently how damn expensive accomodation and financially burdensome uni actually is, so I really want to take a gap year as I'm not even 100% sure I want to go to my 'chosen' uni. So is there a way to cancel my student finance application and is it still possible to inform the uni that I cant attend this year.

Of course you can. As far as I am aware, student finance do not make any payments until your attendance is confirmed. You can contact your university and let them know that you want to withdraw from your course. Once you've done that, contact student finance and let them know. I'm not sure how it works with accommodation though, sorry.
