Is going to this freshers event worth it?

My uni is holding an event for freshers who are commuting to meet and socialise this Friday and since I'm commuting, I'm definitely considering going. But I'm still wondering if it's even worth it because I feel like not a lot of people will be commuting and so there won't be many people there, and also I have a lot of social anxiety and find it very hard to open up straight away so everyone just gets the impression that I'm boring/rude.

On the flip side, I really do want to make an effort to start stepping out of my comfort zone and overcoming my anxiety. I don't even know what answers I'm looking for here ffffff idk man I'm just wondering if anyones been to similar things or went through the same issues when they were freshers?? or even if you are a fresher and are experiencing the same dilemma/anxiety.

(btw I didn't know what forum this should go in so I just put it in here lolol)

Same issue here, Queen Mary too.
Yeah, I am a first year and really not an upfront person, especiaply when it's an event with lots of people.
However I am really trying stepping oit of my comfort zone and trying things.
I am certanly not going to the big night parties, but daily stuff or smaller things - like open night, seem fine and also fun.
It's better do to it l, than later being sorry.
Hey,

I think you should go. I'm also starting university this year, if I had the option to do this I would definitely go.

You're getting the chance to meet a lot of new people, so they won't know anything about you. It allows you to show yourself the way you'd like people to see you.

Also, I'm sure there will be loads of people commuting.

You're bound to get nervous beforehand, however, I'm very sure once you go you'll have a good time.

Hope all goes well for you x

I'm in the same boat- I'm not too keen on like the parties/club nights and stuff, but other activities during the day seem fun and also the events where you just get to meet new people and make friends I'll definitely make an effort to turn up to

yeah I'm definitely gonna make an effort to go. I am still anxious of course but I can't just avoid people forever lmao. thank you for responding
You will probably find there are a lot more who are commuting than you think there will be. Also it does give you a chance to meet people other than those on your course.
