What is Bristol university like? do you think it will be a place where I can make lots of close-knit friends? And which halls are best for like socialising? I'm not a partying person but I still want to make close friends and have a good laugh. And what's the ethnic minority like? Is the university quite diverse in terms of race-please don't come back at me. Thank you!

I don't go to Bristol but in general I would say that societies are the best way to make friends at University. Sports especially.

If you look up the list of societies at Bristol you could look for societies such as Afro-Carribean society, ISOC, America Society etc.. to get an idea that there will be ethnic minorities.

As someone who is about to start their masters at Bristol, I honestly wouldn't recommend the uni at all. My course is not offered at other unis which is the only reason I'm going to Bristol.

Halls best for finding friends are probably Manor hall, Hiatt Baker, & maybe Hawthorns. You can make good friends but you have to put a lot of effort in by going to & trying out different societies. Also if your course involves lab work then that's a good opportunity to make friends too. In terms of diversity, the majority of people are white, with quite a few Asians & the odd European student. Hope that helps 😊.

Bristol was a port city. Non-Europeans have been coming to Bristol for hundreds of years and now it welcomes migrants, refugees, - and even Londoners.

Seriously, the BAME mix in Bristol reflects its past and its a good social mix. Our current mayor is the son of 1950s migrants from the Caribbean. The Uni isnt as diverse as some in the Midlands or London but it certainly isn't 'white'. Bristol is one of the leaders in 'widening participation' - and so the social mix is getting a lot more eclectic now. If you come to an Open Day or do a Campus tour you'll see this.
