I think its that because
increase in 1.14% = x1.0114 and as ur trying to find what the population was 100 years ago you would do it to the power of 100
y x 1.0114^100= 65000000000

Rearrange and solve to get y = 2092273367.6258443
Rounded to the nearest tenth of a billion is 2100000000

but am not sure as I'm only in year 10 so I could be doing something wrong

Nope, that's completely right. You could also find the inverse of the percentage (1/1.0114 = 0.9889....) and do (65000000000*(0.9889...)^100) which gets you the same answer as you got.

Srsly. yay i can do y13/grade 12 maths woahh i can't believe i got that correct.
