On my first year of college I had achieved the grade MP, I had aimed for a MM but I ended up getting more passes that I was told to have, am I still able to achieve MMM in the second year, if so how many merits or distinctions do I need.

Find out how units you are doing in your first and second year. Then find out how much credits each unit is worth. After you can search the grade boundaries for your course and figure out how many points you need to achieve MMM.
