I thought I'd go ahead and start an applications thread for all of us materials and metallurgy applicants (All 5 of us!)

What A-Levels/IBs/Highers are you taking?
What universities are you thinking about?
A-Level/IB/Highers predicted grades
GCSE grades
Why materials science/metallurgy? Any area in particular which interests you?

Hey there!
I think having even 5 of us here will be too optimistic haha

What A-Levels are you taking?
Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics

What universities are you thinking about?
Applied to Oxford, Imperial, Manchester (got an offer yesterday), Sheffield, Swansea

A-Level predicted grades
A*A*A*A (A in Chemistry) plus submitting my EPQ soon - hopefully an A

GCSE grades
N/A (I’m overseas)

Why materials science? Any area in particular which interests you?
I just love doing bonding in Chemistry and Young Modulus in Physics and I want to get an Engineering degree so Materials was the best option really. I also thought it’d be realitively easy to get in...
Mechanical properties and nanomaterials, modules on polymers in unis sound interesting too.

How about you?

Hi! I better introduce myself

What A-Levels/IBs/Highers are you taking?
Maths, Chemistry and Physics

What universities are you thinking about?
I've applied to Oxford (Mansfield), Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield and Loughborough

A-Level/IB/Highers predicted grades
A*A*A* + already achieved an A in EPQ and A in Further Maths AS

GCSE grades
9999998877A

Why materials science/metallurgy? Any area in particular which interests you?
I did my EPQ in biomaterials, and so most of my interests lie there. Plus a little bit of graphene of course, being from Manchester

Which Oxford college are you applying for @japain ?

Queen's. How's PAT preparation going?

I was in NGI this summer for a tour and a lecture by one of the PhD students - loved it so much. I wanted to go to Manchester again for my interview but got an offer without one (not that I complain...).

Have you got any offers/interview invites? I heard back from Sheffield (going on the applicant open day in December) and Swansea (ABB with a B in EPQ).

Hey,

Applying for Materials Science this year. Only applied to Oxford (Queens) so far, haven't decided on the other four. I am doing a gap year in a large Materials Firm as a placement student.

GCSE's: 877 4A* 4A
A-levels: Maths, Chemistry, Further Maths (A*A*A achieved) and am taking Physics A-Level during my gap as I didn't realise I wanted to do Materials until it was too late, predicted A*, plus A* in further, as I thought I may as well retake.
Why materials - my job, plus its multi disciplined so goes over all the subjects I really enjoy.

I think it's just a matter of availability for Birmingham. The open day in November is the only one until the new year- it must have booked out first
