I was wondering what the reason is for the different courses of the right and left recurrent laryngeal nerves

There is an aorta on the left but there is not an aorta on the right.

The laryngeal nerves develop running under some of the embryological pharyngeal arches. Only the left one develops into the left-sided circulation.
