Why don't all Oxford courses require an admissions test? Watch
Is there an actual reason for this? I'm looking to apply for Oxford and am just wondering why this doesn't have an admissions test when so many other subjects do.
Most do (85% of candidates take a test). There are two main reasons why a subject may not have a test:
1) The test does not have predictive validity (it does not predict whether a candidate will or will not be made an offer and/or how well they will perform on course). There are instances where subjects have either discontinued a test or not proceeded with one beyond the pilot stage.
2) The ratio of applications to interview spots is such as to not justify the cost of designing and delivering a test (NB the cost includes the cost to schools who invigilate tests).
All tests are subject to continual review and likewise the admissions procedures for each course.
