Sixthform work experience

I would like to study medicine but I don't know what type of work experience is required. I'm currently in yr12 . Does it have to be at hospitals or do you know anything else I can do?

Yes, work experience is an important part of medicine applications. By readings lots of people’s medicine applications on TSR, often people have volunteered for a long time (usually 6 months +) in a care home, an animal sanctuary or something similar. Usually they also have a few “clinical” work placements, in a hospital or a surgeons. Usually these are difficult to organise, but they are many organisations you can go through.

I suggest you have a look on some of the threads like Oxford Medicine Entry 2020. You can save them, and identify the types of work experience and other things that prospective medicine applicants have done. You can then aim to be like them this time next year, or even you can quote them and ask for some initial advice/ direction.

Best Wishes
Try out NDS or NDorms at Uni of Oxford.
