I knew a few people who had a day folder and then went home and put them in subject folders. However, I had a folder for each subject (little ones) that I brought with me to college and then at the end of a topic, I would empty the little subject folder into a big subject folder at home. That way I kept my folders light, but I always had the current topics notes on hand if needed.
I’d also recommend plastic wallets and sticky labels. Sort all your papers and label. That way they are easy to access in a hurry, and you can grab the desired labelled plastic wallet of work if your in a hurry. Such as the “arghhh, where are my case studies on earthquakes” flick through folder, see label, grab and go!
