Hi everyone,

I am kind of confused about choosing a good master degree in computer science with a placement year in the UK. Middlesex University, City, Oxford Brookes, or Hertfordshire.
Please let me know your past experience or opinions about these programs.

Thank you.

I don't know about the programmes but purely based on location, I would pick City (if you want to be in London) or Oxford Brookes.

Hi n4srin!

I am part of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire. I am studying a BSc in Engineering, and have just finished my placement year. If you have any questions about Hertfordshire, then do let me know! The University has supported me well over the course of my placement year, making regular checkups and ensuring that my placement company assigns me work which is relevant to my degree.

The University of Hertfordshire is in a great location - it's based on a green campus with large parks nearby, yet it is still only a 25 minute train journey from King Cross in central London. The Masters that you are considering is accredited by the BCS and includes a vast range of optional modules. Our Computer Science department maintains strong links to business and the University's careers service, CareersHub will support you in finding a placement opportunity.

Feel free to contact our Postgraduate Rep, Herts PG Student Rep if you have any questions about postgraduate study at Herts

Hi there - thought I would give you some more details of what you can expect from a Masters at Herts!

There are two options for Computer Science postgraduate study. You can choose an integrated masters (MEng) course, or go for the perhaps more traditional BSc undergrad followed by the MSc postgrad programme. Both courses are four years teaching with an option for a placement year, and are broadly similar in content, especially in the first two years; the main difference is that on the MEng course, you will complete a team project in your final year, whereas the MSc is an individual thesis (this can be done as a Masters by research as well). The School has a strong research background as it is one of the longest running Computer Science degrees in the country having started in the 60s, and there's loads of opportunities to specialise, whether that's in AI, networks, IT, or software engineering. Both courses have their individual merits which I'm happy to discuss with you further if you wish!

It's already been mentioned but it bears repeating that the placement service at UH is second to none. I also did a placement and the careers department were really helpful in tailoring CVs and cover letters to ensure you get the right role, as well as interview and assessment centre practice.

Hope that helps - if you have any more questions then feel free to get in touch, or have a browse of the website - https://www.herts.ac.uk/study/school...mputer-science.

Brookes is far the best of those three.
