Stupid Maintenance Loan Watch

I wanted to stay in halls this academic year, knowing I will be able to get a better Uni experience out of it. I am going to Imperial so everything is quite pricey as it is, and when applying for student finance, my maintenance loan was barely half of what I needed to cover the costs fully. Considering my tight financial situation at home, I was basically left without any choice when it came to choosing my halls of residence, and so I had to opt to commute instead. Has anyone else found themselves in a similar position, and does anyone else have any advice regarding how I can compensate with this, as I still wish to socialise a lot during uni.

The majority of 2nd and 3rd year students live in private accomodation or commute in as South Ken is extremely expensive, so lots of the social events and clubs and societies will be set up for students like you in that situation. Its not the very best start to your time at University I agree, but plenty of other students will doing exactly the same thing. My advice would be to join a good selection of clubs and societies at Freshers fair on the 1st October to help kick start your social life. Also look at what events the union has planned .... see the following link

See here for clubs and societies

You will be meeting other people on your course at various welcome events, some will be in Halls and have a social life building arround that, but you will also find people in the same situation, ask them if they want to team up for some of the freshers events.
