Okay so... I'm in my second year now. Unfortunately, due to my own fault - I haven't made that many friends on my course since I barely attended lectures last year but I'm planning to join some societies - anyway, in the meantime how do I deal with that lonely feeling, and how do I stop feeling embarrassed/ashamed about going to lectures alone?

You are not alone! Just got, if you don’t you’ll struggle in second year, maybe fail it. Loneliness hurts, I’ve experienced it too. Go ahead and join those societies and talk to people you sit next too. Take biscuits and share with them (good ones!).
