St.Aidans !!!!!!! Thats where I'm applying. Too many people are applying to Mildert because like Aidans, its nice but also because the applications to places ratio is so low, don't fall into the same trap!!!

hehe i applied to both (different courses)
Mildert!

- No shared rooms
- Low application ratio
- Nice, refurbished rooms
- Participation is the key, lmao
- Not too big, not too small
- Friendly people like me have applied there hehe
- Lake
- Ducks

There are more reasons, i can't think of them right now lol

I must warn you that there are about 6 people sharing in Mildert this year, and not all rooms are refurbished and it's a lottery whether you get one.

But it is the best college in Durham. (FACT)
6 isn't too bad.
Are the non-refurbished rooms alright?

Yeah and the 6 are all moving into different rooms next term and then hopefully there won't be anyone sharing at all. The non-refurbished rooms are fine really- people complain about living in Wear but it's really not that bad (although it's referred to as 'The Ghetto'). All of the blocks are part of a rolling refurbishment plan and there are only two blocks left to do now.

You'll find that it's not so much what your room is like to start off with but what you make of it that matters.

Apparently Milderts application ratio has Sky-Rocketed this year.
Don't say I didn't warn you if indeed I am correct.
I'm not suprised at that at all! Although it does make me all the more worried!

I think word has just got round about how great a college it is- hardly anyone in my year actually applied to the college and those that did are mostly scientists/engineers who picked it by looking at the map.
I'd go for Aidans, as they have ducks, a pizza place and a toastie bar. Whereas Mildert's lake is there because a car park sunk..Mildert does have a bigger bar though....

Mildert's lake is there because a car park sunk

Huh?! Lol

J/w, how do you find the journey from Plymouth to Durham? How long does it take? Do you ever go home for the weekend or anything?
Reply 14
Unfortunately it's true- originally there was a car park built there but it was under water level so it was sunk almost immediately to create the lake.
That's funny!

I think it gives it more character...in a way. Plus the ducks love it and it's beautiflul which is the main thing.
Were you scared when you first got to Durham?

Scared of what? The people or the work or just being away from home?

If I am honest the only thing I was scared about was whether people would treat me differently because of my gap year, but it turns out that apart from the teasing when I turned 20, everything is fine. The only thing that scares me now is the work (and also the lung infection I've picked up).
I meant scared of being away from home.
Lung infection? Hope it clears up sharpish!
