I'm 4 hours away from my home by train and no, not scared at all about it. People go back at weekends etc but I don't really want to go because I will miss out on stuff up here. It already feels like term is going too quickly!!

hello,
I'm from aidans if anyone has any questions pm me.
I shouldn't be too biased, but I would say aidans over mildert - their food is limited in choice and a bit dodgy, and our college is much more pleasing to the eye.

Scared of what? The people or the work or just being away from home?

If I am honest the only thing I was scared about was whether people would treat me differently because of my gap year, but it turns out that apart from the teasing when I turned 20, everything is fine. The only thing that scares me now is the work (and also the lung infection I've picked up).

I've managed to pick that infection up too!

i am unsure about the sharing of rooms (aklthouh would be cool to share one with the opposite sex  )

which colleges have the best chances of getting a single room?

Collingwood is mainly single, but there are some shared and you might end up sharing even if you say you don't want to.

Van Mildert is all single I think. http://www.dur.ac.uk/van-mildert.college/prospective/accommodation.php
