289 aye.

So Johnson loses again. MPs reject something that is perfectly normal.

Why should Parliament be put into recess just for the Tory Party conference? Parliament is there to represent the people of the country, not to act in the best interests of the Tory party.

If only Johnson hadn't lost control of Parliament and then illegal prorogued it.....

Guess they'll be no conference womanising for Johnson. Maybe he can find a young entrepreneur looking for a grant to fill this hole in his life?

I am no Tory supporter but the simple answer is because that is what happens every year.

Nope, normally there is a recess vote called for all the parties to have conferences.

This vote is just so one of them can. Sadly for them, that party doesn't have a majority.

There’s normally a recess period for all conferences, they don’t need to vote on it.

Parliament can't recess without a vote....

They voted 223 to 25 to take summer recess from 25 July to 3 September for example.

Labour took theirs during a period Parliament wasnt sitting due to a decision made entirely by the Conservative Ministers. Labour had no influence over the decision for Parliament not to sit whilst its conference was on

Nothing stopped the the Conservative Party conference taking place over the last few weeks.

Boris/JRM could have just brought forward the standard vote to recess for the period. They chose not to, this is an inadvertent consequence of that decision.

Edit
Also, you might remember that the Labour Party Conference was cut short due to Parliament reconvening.
