In ionic eqaution

So basically in ionic equation we have to replace the formulae of ionic compounds by their separate ions.
In this process, can we only separate the ionic compounds which are aqueous?

hey, usually we only separate the compounds into ions in aq as those that remain in aq at both sides of the equation are spectator ions and can be removed, what specific question are you looking at?

Thank you for reply. So we don't separate the compounds into ions in Solid, liquid and gas?
