Biology DCPIP practical 8 A level

After carrying out this practical, to investigate the effect of ammonium hydroxide, I placed the solutions into a colorimeter and noted their absorbency at regular intervals. However, I found that the absorbency seemed to rise then decrease again. Is there a reason for this or is this simply down to human error?
