English language resit after getting 5

I’m 16 and starting A-levels however have found out that some good universities require a six in English language. I received mostly nines and eights however in English language I got a 5 and one mark off a six, got it remarked and I didn’t go up. It says (as an example) on the UCL website that to do a biology degree you need a 6 in eng lang, even though it is biology. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is any leniency to the criteria given by universities, or if it’s worth doing a resit however would take time away from my A-levels

Hi, I just did my GCSEs this year as well and I’m 16 too. I passed all my GCSEs with 5s but I didn’t have a strong grade to study sciences at sixth form. Lots of people suggested I do applied science or something else but I was very determined on what I wanted to achieve. All my friends are going college and sixth form however I’m resisting all my GCSEs as an external/ private candidate and I am going to Improve my grades next summer so I can study the a levels I want. I am aiming for 7/8s snd will hopefully get them so I can do a level sciences next year. It did make me feel abit awkward that I’m probably going to be a year behind but I found out some people spend 3 years at sixth trying to get better grades so I was like why shall I take 3 years at sixth for, when I can just spend one of the years at home in resisting and getting the grades I want and doing the course I want the next year. I think you should do what makes u happy and what u think is best for you  good luck!

It might be different at less competitive unis but if UCL want a 6 in English Lang they are unlikely to let people in without it unless there are extenuating circumstances. So your choices are realistically to resit the English Language or to only shortlist unis that are happy to accept a 5.
Revising at home may have its appeal, but you need the challenge a teacher can give you. You’ll need a more experienced hand to guide you as answering exam questions requires more than recalling from memory. If it’s not too late sign up at night school or at college to resit.

Hello, Its been 4 years now and I was wondering what happened. I need you advice as I am in a similar circumstance.

I got a 5 in Language and a 6 in Lit i was few marks away from a 6 in language.

I am planning to resit English language next year as I need to do same with maths. I am going to be doing maths A level through and online school and also self study so in total I will be doing 4 A levels and I might have to resit English.

Also aside from that I got mostly 5s mostly in my GCSE but a 5/4 in science I am not doing anything science related I hope that won't effect anything.

I don't plan on going to russel groups as I plan to study outside the UK however, they do look at both A levels and GCSE and if I do stay in the UK the school that gained my interest requires atleast a 6 in Lang and Maths.
