Foundation Year at Uni

how much does a foundation year cost?
For degrees with a foundation year, tuition fees are set by each university individually and capped at £9000 a year. I imagine the vast majority will be £9000 for tuition fees. As it's integrated into the degree, it is funded by SFE just as the rest of the degree would be (tuition plus maintenance loan).

For an "art foundation year" - that is to say, FAD courses (foundation diploma in art and design) - the fees are again, set by the course provider, however these are further education courses, not higher education. Thus they are funded differnetly, and are normally free for students who are under the age of 19 when the course starst, and funded by Advanced Learner Loans for those over the age of 19. Tuition fees for these can vary enormously although normally they are considerably less than a year of university tuition (but more limited funding in some respects, as you won't be eligible for a maintenance loan for these).

Since these two courses are fundamentally different qualifications it's important you clarify exactly which you are looking at.

The fees are listed on the course webpage. The fees for the foundation year are the same as for any other year of the course there; bear in mind though you can be funded by SFE for the foundation year as well as the other years.
